Heavy security at Akropong as House of Chiefs dethrones Okuapemhene

The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has nullified the enstoolment of Odehye Kwasi Akufo as Okuapemhene.
Odehye Kwasi Akufo was enstooled by the Paramount Queenmother Nana Afua Nketia Obuo as successor to the late Okuapemhene Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa III without due traditional process.
The Okuapeman stool has three ruling houses- Nketia, Amogyaa, and Sakyeabea. Currently, it is the turn of the Sakyibea ruling house to select a candidate to be installed as Okuapemhene.

However, the Okuapemhene Stool has remained vacant almost five years after the demise of Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwah III, Okuapemanhene, due to dispute emanating from the Sakyibea Royal family whose turn it is to nominate an heir to the vacant stool.
Two factions emerged from the Sakyibea Royal Family and each claimed to be the right candidate to succeed the late Oseadeyo Addo Dankwah III, who ruled for 41 years before his demise

While the Paramount queenmother Nana Afua Nketiaa Obuo selected Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo, a retired Journalist and installed him as the new Okuapemhene, Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo, a businessman was subsequently given the stool name Nana Oboubi Atiemo, the Abrewatia of Sakyibea Royal family also nominated Nana Kese as Paramount Chief.
This chieftaincy dispute led to several clashes and destruction of properties in Akropong.
Lilian Nana Agyemang who is the Abrewatia of the Sakyibea Royal family petitioned the Regional House Chiefs challenging the traditional capacity of the Paramount Queenmother in selecting and installing Odehye Kwasi Akufo as Okupemhene.
Delivering the landmark judgement Thursday, April 30, 2020, the Eastern Regional House of Chief upheld that selection of a legible royal to be enstooled as Paramount Chief is the prerogative of the Abrewatia of the ruling family whose turn it is to select a candidate and submit the name of the chosen royal to Asonahene to be sent to the Queenmother.

The House upheld that the Queenmother failed to provide evidence that Odehye Kwasi Akufo’s name was presented to the Asonahene as tradition says.

The House also stated that in nominating a candidate, the Queenmother alone cannot select a candidate from the Royal Family without the involvement of the Abrewatia, adding that the involvement of the Abrewatia and the elderly female is an aged-custom which does not take away the powers of the Queenmother in presenting the candidate to the Kingmakers.
Therefore the instalment of Odehye Kwasi Akufo is null and void with no traditional effect hence due processes must be followed in enstooling an Okuapemhene.
The Regional House of Chiefs awarded Ghc25,000 cost against the Queenmother.
The judgement was delivered amid tight security of armed Police and Military Personnel at the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and Akropong township. The security personnel deployed from Accra are to maintain presence at Akropong and its surrounding areas.
History suggests that processes of enstooling a paramount Chief whenever the stool is vacant has never been smooth in the last 100 years.

So let me tell U a story. This pic was taken in 1992.  I was at KASS form 5.  It was a Saturday entertainment night. I remember before this performance Lord Kenya and his boys had tied me to my bed so that he will be the only dope rapper for the night . Kenya and his boys were tall , strong and wild. My boys and I were short and afraid. We waited for them to leave my dorm then they untied me and I rushed to the D hall. When I grabbed the mic I started my rap which was written by my rap teacher called laud Marcus.

“Cocaine is like Cain and will bring u pain.  Stop the drugs it will lead you to rugs. Too much abortion causes abomination and contraceptive is sometimes deceptive “

Adebayor: ‘I didn’t bring COVID-19 to Togo nor am I Drogba, Eto’o; I won’t donate’

Emmanuel Adebayor has defended his refusal to donate to Togo capital Lome’s coronavirus battle and distanced himself from fellow African football stars Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o who have made donations to the fight in their country.
The 36-year-old, who now plays for Olimpia in Paraguay, said he does not want to be compared with Drogba and Eto’o and feels criticised because he has not established a foundation in his hometown.

“I am compared with Drogba and Eto’o,” he said during a Facebook Live session.
“However, I am neither of them. I am Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor and I will always do what I want”.
“I do what I want, I eat what I want, and this is the most important thing. Of course, there will be those who criticise me because I did not create a foundation in Lome.”
The former Manchester City and Arsenal forward said he will not make a donation after feeling mistreated.
“For those saying I do not donate, let me be very clear: I do not donate,” he added. “It is very simple”.
“It is like some people believe that I brought coronavirus to Lome. It is very unfortunate but that is how it is and that is how this country is.”
Drogba and Eto’o recently reacted with outrage when French professors discussed the possibility of using Africa as a testing ground for coronavirus vaccines on television.

First man to test positive for coronavirus in Upper West Region recovers

A 42-year-old man who was the first to test positive for Covid-19 in the Upper West Region has now recovered and is about to be integrated into the community.
Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, disclosed on Wednesday that the recovered patient has now tested negative for the virus twice, confirming that he was indeed free from the infection.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih announced this at a meeting with members of the Sissaala West Public Health Epidemic Committee.
The 42-year-old man tested positive on March, 27, 2020 in Ghana after travelling through the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and Egypt.
Dr. Bin Salih said the number of persons in the region who have tested positive for the disease still remain eight, all of whom are being held in quarantine at Wa, except one who is at Nandom.
He said six of the confirmed cases are from Wa, one from the Nandom district and another one from the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa district.
He said apart from the coronavirus, the region was also battling Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) and stigmatisation.
According to him, the view that once someone contracts Covid-19 they are condemned to die has been major misconception that must be addressed..
Dr Bin Salih said several thousands of people have contracted the disease and have been treated and discharged
“Once somebody contracts it and is given medical attention, the person stands the chance of recovery and will be integrated back in the society. Once you begin to shun people who have the disease, those who show signs of the symptoms are likely not going to comeclose to heath facilities for them to be tested. Once they continue to live with us there is the tendency that the disease will spread,” he stated.
Sissala West District Director of Health Services, Cecelia Kakraba, expressed worry about a lack of personal protective equipment for frontline staff fighting the deadly disease.
“As I speak to u now, the whole district there is no single infra-red thermometer. The district hospital used to have one but it has also broken down.
“We don’t do triaging at the OPD level, we don’t have face or nose masks, neither do we have gloves…,” she lamented.
Touched by the revelation of the Sissala West District Director, the regional minister gave out his personal infra-red thermometer and a cash amount of GHS2,000 to the district.
He promised to add more when the region receives more donation from the government, corporate organisation and individuals.

“We have received some valuable items from a true son of the soil; who is the managing director of USSUYA Ghana Ltd. We have done the distributing of the items and your district has been taken care off. You statement of not having a single infrared thermometer will soon be a thing of the past,” the minister assured.

The Black Stars have not won a continental title since 1982 when they lifted the Africa Cup of Nations for the fourth time. Since then, Ghana has come close on three occasions burned and crushed on the cusp of lifting the title in 1992, 2010 and 2015. [
